What file formats are supported?

Input is a .gpx file with GPS data. Output is a .zip file containing a PNG image sequence at 10 fps, which you import into your video editing software.

Does my GPS data leave the browser?

No. Easy Overlay runs entirely in the browser. Your GPX file and all computed data are processed locally on your device. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

Is Easy Overlay free and open source?

Yes. Easy Overlay is free and will remain free. The source code is available on GitLab and can be self-hosted and customized if needed.

How do I synchronize the overlay with my video?

The overlay displays a timestamp. Match it with the filmed time on your GPS device. Tip: film the GPS clock at the start of recording to make synchronization much easier. Then crop away the timestamp from the overlay.

How do I get GPS data from GoPro videos?

For GoPro cameras with integrated GPS, you can extract telemetry using tools like Telemetry Lite and save it as a .gpx file. Load that file into Easy Overlay.

Why does the speed gauge show very low values?

This usually means the maximum speed calculated from your track is unrealistically high, which compresses the gauge scale. A common cause is starting the recording too soon after turning on the GPS receiver — the GPS needs a short time to stabilize. Wait a moment before you begin recording. If the track is already affected, you can edit the GPX file directly (it is plain XML) and remove the first 10–20 seconds of data.

Does Easy Overlay work offline?

Yes. Easy Overlay is a Progressive Web App (PWA) and can be installed. After installation, the app works without an internet connection.

Do I need an account or registration?

No. No registration is required. Simply open app.easy-overlay.de and load your GPX file.
